Health Surveillance in the Île-de-France Region. Bulletin of January 23, 2025.

Key points

Bronchiolitis

  • In hospitals, indicators continued to decline. The peak of the epidemic was reached between weeks 47 and 48.

  • Children under one year of age continued to account for the vast majority of medical visits for bronchiolitis.

  • In the community, indicators were rising slightly from a low level.

Flu-like illnesses and acute respiratory infections

  • In hospitals, the total number of emergency room visits and hospitalizations following an emergency room visit were on the decline. However, these indicators were on the rise among those under 15 years of age.

  • In community settings, as in Week 2, healthcare utilization continued to rise within the SOS Médecin network, linked to a significant increase in consultations for influenza-like illness among children under 15 years of age (+47%). This situation does not rule out a possible resurgence of the epidemic in older age groups in the coming weeks.

Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE)

  • Decrease in the number of SOS Médecins cases for AGE across all age groups. However, an increase in cases was observed among children under 15 years of age (+6.2%).

  • Indicators in the Sentinelles network have also stabilized.

  • Stabilization of emergency room visits across all age groups, though there was an increase in visits followed by hospitalization across all age groups. Among those under 15, the number of emergency room visits for AGE was on the rise (+7.1%)

  • Moderate activity levels in SOS Médecins associations and low activity levels in hospital emergency departments.

COVID-19

  • SOS Médecins: in S03, the number of cases involving COVID-19 decreased. Case numbers were low across all age groups.

  • Emergency department visits: In Q3, the number of visits for COVID-19 decreased across all age groups.

  • Clusters of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in long-term care facilities: the number of ARI episodes with a COVID-19 diagnosis reported by long-term care facilities (primarily nursing homes) remained low since late 2024 (unconsolidated Q3 data). Most episodes reported in recent weeks involved the influenza virus.

  • SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater: the level of circulation decreased in S03.
