Health Monitoring in the Île-de-France Region. Bulletin of February 4, 2026.

Key points

Lower Respiratory Tract Infections

  • In hospitals: The rate of emergency department visits for acute lower respiratory tract infections (ALRTIs) continued to decline, accounting for 3.7% of total activity (-0.7 percentage points). The number of emergency department visits for ALRTIs also continued to decrease, with 2,677 visits (-18.2%).

  • In the community: At SOS Médecins, the number of procedures also declined, with 2,010 procedures (-15.7%). The activity rate for lower respiratory tract infections decreased to 15.3% (-3.3 percentage points).

Influenza and Influenza-Like Illness

  • Indicators for flu-like syndromes were down across all age groups, both in community settings and in hospitals. Consequently, the number of healthcare visits and hospitalizations following emergency department visits decreased. The Île-de-France region entered the post-epidemic phase in week 5.

COVID-19

  • SOS Médecins: The number of cases involving suspected COVID-19 increased slightly across all age groups. Case numbers remained low.

  • Emergency department visits: The number of emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 remained stable across all age groups. Case numbers remained low.

  • SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater: In Week 5, an overall upward trend in SARS-CoV-2 circulation levels in wastewater was observed (6 of the 7 wastewater treatment plants have interpretable results).

  • If these trends continue in the coming weeks, this would be the second consecutive winter season without a COVID-19 epidemic peak in Île-de-France.

Acute gastroenteritis

  • The trend in data and the percentage of emergency room visits for gastroenteritis among children under one year of age is particularly volatile. It currently stands at an average of around 26 emergency room visits per day in Île-de-France for children under one year of age. The available data suggest the onset of an annual gastroenteritis epidemic.
