Health Monitoring in the Île-de-France Region. Bulletin of December 19, 2024.

Key points

Bronchiolitis

  • In hospitals and in the community, indicators were declining during week 50. This decrease in bronchiolitis-related activity was part of a downward trend that had been ongoing for several weeks. The peak of the epidemic likely occurred between weeks 47 and 48.

  • In hospitals, children under one year of age continued to account for the vast majority of hospitalizations for bronchiolitis.

Flu-like Illnesses and Acute Respiratory Infections

  • In week 50, compared to week 49: The number of medical visits for influenza-like illness continued to rise rapidly in private practice (SOS Médecins) as well as in hospitals. The number of consultations increased by 40% in private practice and by 57% in emergency departments. The number of hospitalizations following a visit to the emergency department also rose, with an increase of 41%. The age group of those over 15 accounted for 81% of hospitalizations following visits to emergency departments. This coincides with an increase in the detection of influenza virus in hospital and community samples, as well as in the number of patients hospitalized for severe influenza in intensive care units.

COVID-19

  • SOS Médecins: In S50, a slight increase in the number of procedures for COVID-19 across all age groups and a decrease among those over 65.

  • Emergency department visits: In week 50, an increase in the number of visits and the number of visits followed by hospitalization for COVID-19 across all age groups.

Acute gastroenteritis (AGE)

In week 50:

  • Stabilization in the number of SOS Médecins cases for AGE across all age groups. Indicators in the Sentinelles network also remained stable.

  • A slight increase in emergency department visits across all age groups, stabilization among those under 15, and a decrease in visits followed by hospitalization for AGE across all age groups and among those under 15. The proportion of visits for AGE was similar to the previous two years.

  • Low activity levels were observed in SOS Médecins associations and in hospital emergency departments.
