CoviPrev: Epidemiological Update for the Île-de-France Region. March 2021

Key Points

Adoption of preventive measures and behaviors between March and November 2020

  • High level of adherence to hygiene and physical and social distancing measures during the first lockdown;

  • Decline in adherence to distancing measures during the summer and until the curfew was implemented (late October);

  • This decline likely contributed to the resurgence of viral circulation during the summer of 2020 and led to the onset of the second wave of the pandemic beginning in October 2020;

  • Lower adherence to preventive measures (hygiene and physical distancing) reported by men, people under 35, and those not in the workforce;

  • Lower adherence to all preventive measures reported by people with low health literacy.

Mental health: impact between March and November 2020

  • Deterioration in mental health reported from the start of lockdown, with high levels of reported anxiety and depressive disorders and a high prevalence of sleep disorders;

  • A decrease in anxiety and depressive disorders reported after the lifting of lockdown through the end of summer;

  • An increase in depressive disorders has been reported since November 2020;

  • Being female, being under 35 years of age, being economically inactive, having a history of psychological disorders, and being in a difficult or perceived precarious financial situation are factors associated with a reported decline in mental health;

  • Being in a socially disadvantaged group increases reported anxiety and sleep disorders.
