COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Île-de-France Region as of May 19, 2022

Key Points

In Week 19 in Île-de-France, the decline in virological and hospital indicators continued, confirming the decrease in SARS-CoV-2 circulation. However, circulation remained at high levels, calling for continued vigilance.

  • The crude incidence rate stood at 232 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and declined for the sixth consecutive week. The decline was, however, less pronounced in Week 19.

  • The same downward trend was observed for the positivity rate (10.8%) at the regional level and across all departments in the Île-de-France region.

  • The BA.2 sublineage of the Omicron variant has been predominant in Île-de-France since late February 2022.

  • SI-VIC data showed a decrease in new hospitalizations and COVID-19-related deaths in hospitals. The number of new admissions to intensive care remained stable.

  • Vaccination coverage is increasing slowly in the region.

Given that SARS-CoV-2 continues to circulate, albeit at a declining rate, vaccination (and booster shots) for all eligible individuals remains essential and must be combined with strict adherence to other preventive measures.
