COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Île-de-France Region as of January 21, 2021

Key Points

In Week 02 (January 11–17, 2021), epidemiological monitoring indicators (virological and hospital-based) showed that SARS-CoV-2 circulation remained at a high level and was increasing among people over 65 years of age. Pressure on the hospital system in the Île-de-France region remained high, and reports from social and medical-social facilities suggest an increase in viral transmission within these settings.

With the emergence of virus variants, believed to be more contagious, strict adherence to preventive measures and the acceleration of vaccination remain, at this stage, the only tools capable of addressing an increase in SARS-CoV-2 circulation.
