COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Île-de-France Region as of January 20, 2022
Key Points
In week 02 in Île-de-France, viral circulation remained very intense in the region.
The crude incidence rate stood at 3,679 cases per 100,000 inhabitants; it declined for the first time after 10 consecutive weeks of increases, though it remained very high amid a decline in testing rates.
The positivity rate continued to rise, reaching 25%, its highest level since the start of the epidemic.
The Omicron variant (21K, B.1.1.529), which has been the dominant strain in Île-de-France since Week 51, continued to spread rapidly in the region; however, the Delta variant remained present.
SI-VIC data showed stability in new hospitalizations, a decline in new ICU admissions, and a continued increase in new deaths reported in hospitals.
Vaccination coverage with at least one dose was 74.7%, 73.5% for the full course, and 43.6% for the booster dose.
Given the high level of viral circulation, vaccinating all eligible individuals remains essential and must be combined with high adherence to other preventive measures.
