COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Île-de-France Region as of December 17, 2020

Key Points

Following the peak of the second wave in week 44 (October 26–November 1, 2020) and after five weeks of decline, certain indicators are showing signs of rising again

Week 50 (December 7–13) was marked by an increase in the testing rate, accompanied by a rise in the incidence rate in the region. Hospital indicators are also rising again, without having even reached a truly low baseline. This concerning trend suggests a resurgence in new SARS-CoV-2 infections.

After five weeks of the epidemic’s decline, its current trajectory in France and in our region suggests a high risk that SARS-CoV-2 transmission will increase again in the coming weeks. This observation calls for the utmost vigilance, particularly in the context of the year-end holidays.
