Measles, which had become a rare disease in France, has seen its incidence rise again since 2008. Healthcare facilities are high-risk settings for transmission where vigilance has been heightened, especially since 2009: 29 reports (102 cases) were submitted to the CClin Paris-Nord. Of these cases, 43 were nosocomial in origin and primarily involved healthcare workers (81%). The categories of healthcare workers most frequently affected are nurses and nursing students. Eleven healthcare workers developed a severe form of measles. Contact tracing and the implementation of airborne precautions were carried out. The number of contacts varied greatly from one outbreak to another, averaging 48 patients and 39 healthcare workers. Vaccination updates were conducted among healthcare workers in 17 facilities. Systematic verification of vaccination status upon hiring, and updating as necessary, for healthcare workers and students would limit the number of cases and the resulting human and material costs.
