Public Health Surveillance in Picardy. Epidemiological Update, February 27, 2013.
Key Points
Influenza: Epidemic activity is beginning to decline in France after 10 weeks of the outbreak but remains sustained. The three influenza viruses—A(H1N1) pdm09, A(H3N2), and B—continue to co-circulate. This co-circulation likely explains the prolonged duration and high intensity of this outbreak. In the region, SOS Médecins consultations are declining, and the incidence of flu-like illness estimated by doctors in the unified network is decreasing (546 cases per 105 inhabitants). However, it remains above the epidemic threshold (152 cases per 105 inhabitants) for the 10th consecutive week.
Acute gastroenteritis: Nationally, the incidence of acute gastroenteritis has been below the epidemic threshold for four weeks. In Picardy, visits to SOS Médecins clinics have been steadily declining over the past two weeks and are below the epidemic threshold.
