Public Health Surveillance in Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Epidemiological Update, February 13, 2013.

Key Points

Flu: The epidemic remains intense in the Nord-Pas de Calais region. This week, surveillance indicators from SOS Médecins and emergency departments are stable but remain at a high level. The epidemic peak was reached over the past two weeks. The regional epidemic threshold has been exceeded for the ninth consecutive week.

Acute gastroenteritis: Nationally, the incidence of acute gastroenteritis cases has been below the epidemic threshold for two weeks. In Nord-Pas-de-Calais, surveillance indicators are falling sharply; the epidemic appears to be subsiding.

Between weeks 2013-04 and 2013-05, the syndromic approach revealed an increase in emergency department visits for acute respiratory conditions among those aged 75 and older, which likely contributed to certain situations of strain on downstream hospital beds, as reported by some facilities.
