Surveillance of influenza-like illness

In the Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy regions, as in mainland France, indicators continue to decline overall. However, in Nord-Pas-de-Calais, the number of calls to SOS Médecins for influenza-like illness remains above the alert threshold, and influenza viruses—primarily type B—continue to be isolated by the virology laboratory at the Lille University Hospital.

Surveillance of severe influenza cases

In mainland France, 1,540 severe cases of influenza have been reported this season, including 83 in Nord-Pas-de-Calais and 30 in Picardy. The case fatality rate is 15% nationally, with 232 deaths (14 in Nord-Pas-de-Calais and 7 in Picardy). The majority of cases had risk factors for complicated influenza and were infected with an influenza A virus.

Surveillance of Acute Gastroenteritis

• In mainland France, the incidence of acute diarrhea cases seen in general practice is just above the epidemic threshold.

• In Nord-Pas-de-Calais, calls to SOS Médecins and visits to emergency departments remain at a very high level.

• In Picardy, calls to SOS Médecins for gastroenteritis are in line with expectations; visits to emergency departments remain low.

Monitoring of carbon monoxide poisoning

In mainland France, 984 cases (including 132 in Nord-Pas-de-Calais and 26 in Picardy) involving 3,456 people were reported between September 1, 2014, and March 31, 2015.A detailed report on CO poisonings that occurred during the heating season in Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy will be the subject of a thematic epidemiological update in the near future.
