Key Points

Influenza

• Non-epidemic phase.

• Seek of care for flu-like symptoms remains at a low and stable level at SOS Médecins and in emergency departments. The incidence rate of influenza-like illness estimated by the Sentinelles network was stable compared to week 42. Among hospitalized patients, no influenza viruses were isolated in week 42 at the Lille University Hospital (data from the Amiens University Hospital were not available for week 42).

Bronchiolitis

• Transition to the pre-epidemic phase.

• In week 42, bronchiolitis activity was increasing in the region’s emergency departments and at SOS Médecins (Figure 5, Figure 6). The trends observed are very similar to those seen during the 2021–2022 season (73 hospitalizations in W42-2023 vs. 64 hospitalizations in W42-2021).

COVID-19

• In urban areas of the region, the number of medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 was decreasing (374 in week 42 versus 438 in week 41), as was their share of total activity (2.8% in week 42 versus 3.1% in week 41).

• In hospitals, the number of emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 was decreasing (269 in week 42 versus 338 in week 41). The proportion of Covid-19 hospitalizations and the number of hospitalizations following a visit for Covid-19 remained stable (113 hospitalizations in week 42 versus 114 hospitalizations in week 41). The effective reproduction number is significantly below 1 (0.83 [0.74–0.93]).

Gastroenteritis

• Moderate activity.

• In week 42, the number of patients seeking care for acute gastroenteritis was increasing at SOS Médecins and stable in emergency departments. The incidence of acute diarrhea estimated by the Sentinelles network was also stable. Two types of enteric viruses were isolated at the Lille University Hospital in week 42: rotavirus and adenovirus (data from the Amiens University Hospital were not available in week 42).
