Situation Analysis

Flu-like IllnessesFlu indicators have been rising since mid-September in primary care and emergency department visits, but remain below the expected seasonal level. Several influenza viruses have been isolated at the CHUM Virology Laboratory since late October (influenza A and B). The situation should be monitored closely in the coming weeks.

GastroenteritisGastroenteritis activity has been increasing over this period. Expected seasonal values have been exceeded, so the situation should be closely monitored over the next two weeks.

Bronchiolitis: The outbreak continues; surveillance indicators from community-based medical care show a recent upward trend (S2016-46). In total, since the start of the outbreak, 22 severe cases of bronchiolitis have been hospitalized in the CHUM pediatric intensive care unit. The epidemiological situation is being closely monitored.
