Surveillance of COVID-19, Influenza, and Bronchiolitis in French Guiana. Update as of March 30, 2023.

Key Points

COVID-19

  • In S12, virological indicators reflected low circulation of SARS-CoV-2 in French Guiana. The incidence rate and positivity rate remained stable at low levels (11 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and 5.7%, respectively) amid stable testing activity. Indicators showed a slight increase but remained at low levels in the Oyapock sector and were stable in other sectors. Emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19 were similar to those of the previous week. One new hospitalization across all departments was recorded, and no admissions to intensive care were recorded, as in the previous week. No deaths were reported in S12, as in S11.

  • The Omicron variant is the only one circulating in French Guiana. The XBB recombinant was identified in all sequenced samples between S03 and S11 (N = 21).
