Surveillance of COVID-19, Influenza, and Bronchiolitis in French Guiana. Update as of March 2, 2023.

Key Points

COVID-19

  • In S08, virological indicators reflected low circulation of SARS-CoV-2 across all sectors in French Guiana. The incidence rate and positivity rate remained stable amid a decline in testing activity. In hospitals, the situation was stable with one new hospitalization across all departments, as in Week 07, and no admissions to the ICU. There were no deaths reported in Week 08 (versus 1 in Week 07).

  • The Omicron variant is the only one circulating in French Guiana. Its BA.5 sublineage was identified in nearly all sequences analyzed from Week 49 to Week 03, with its BQ.1.1 sublineage being dominant. Recombinants were also identified in Weeks 02 and 03.

Influenza

  • A downward trend in influenza activity has been observed for the fourth consecutive week. Influenza A and B viruses are co-circulating. The seasonal influenza epidemic is in its declining phase. The peak was reached in week 04.

Bronchiolitis

  • The region is in the inter-epidemic phase.
