Monitoring of seasonal illnesses in Martinique. Update as of January 19, 2016.

Situation Analysis

Flu-like IllnessesFlu-related activity has been sustained in emergency departments over the past two weeks, but the estimated number of visits to private general practitioners for this reason remains below the peak values expected for the season. Several influenza viruses have been isolated by the CNR Influenza and the CHUM virology laboratory (5 type A and 3 type B viruses).

GastroenteritisActivity in pediatric emergency departments for this reason is decreasing; however, the estimated number of patients seeking care in private practice for gastroenteritis is increasing, while remaining below the maximum expected values. The situation will need to be monitored over the coming weeks.

Bronchiolitis: Epidemiological surveillance indicators for bronchiolitis are declining. RSV is still being isolated daily by the CHUM virology laboratory. The epidemic is slowing down.

Chickenpox: The situation is calm.
