Malaria in French Guiana. Update as of March 14, 2024.
Summary
Over the past two weeks, malaria activity has remained stable at moderate levels.
Since the beginning of the year, infections have reportedly occurred mainly in rural areas of the Littoral region and also in suburban areas in the municipalities of Roura (the villages of Cacao and Favard) and, to a lesser extent, outside the town of Matoury.
Key figures
200 malaria cases diagnosed in the region, 31 patients hospitalized, 0 deaths.
198 P. vivax (Pv) cases, including 70 relapses (35%), and 2 P. falciparum (Pf) cases.
5 imported cases (including the 2 Pf cases), 80 autochthonous cases, and 41 cases for which the presumed site of infection could not be identified (provisional data).
