Health Surveillance in French Guiana. Bulletin of March 27, 2025.

Key Points

Dengue

  • Overall dengue activity in the region was relatively low, consistent with levels observed during the inter-epidemic period. The number of confirmed cases remained low despite a slight increase over the past two weeks (Weeks 11 and 12) in the West Coast, Maroni, and Cayenne Island sectors. The circulating serotype is exclusively DENV-2.

Malaria

  • The number of malaria cases diagnosed in the healthcare system over the past two weeks was low and stable, with 3 cases of P. vivax (1 in S11 and 2 in S12, vs. 5 in total in S09 and S10), of which 2 were relapses.

Acute respiratory infections

  • The seasonal flu epidemic continues: the number of consultations for flu-like symptoms was significantly higher in the Maroni health centers, while the number of visits to the emergency departments of the CHC and CHOG has decreased over the past two weeks.

Diarrhea

  • Activity was slightly higher in remote communities (CDPS and local hospitals) and decreased along the coast over the past two weeks (data from the Cayenne and West Guyana hospitals).
