Health Surveillance in French Guiana. Bulletin of December 11, 2025.
Key Points
Dengue
Over the past two weeks, dengue activity in the region has been low, with 5 confirmed cases during this period (2 in week 49 and 3 in week 48). Three cases were from the Savanes sector, and two had an undetermined location. The identified serotype was exclusively DENV-2.
Malaria
The number of malaria cases was moderate and slightly decreasing over the past two weeks, with 6 cases reported (2 in week 49 and 4 in week 48 vs. 12 in weeks 46 and 47). Among these 6 P. vivax cases, no relapses were recorded.
A total of 159 malaria cases have been reported since the beginning of the year. After a relatively quiet period, malaria activity increased in November with 23 cases reported. Over the past two months, infections have occurred primarily in creeks/rivers and in gold panning areas.
Acute Respiratory Infections
Over the past two weeks, the number of cases clinically suggestive of influenza-like illness in the CDPS, local hospitals, and the emergency departments of the three hospitals has risen sharply, a trend confirmed by the high number of positive test results for Influenza A H1N1pdm09 and H3N2 identified by laboratories. The virus is therefore actively circulating in the region, and a flu epidemic has been declared.
Activity related to bronchiolitis and COVID-19 was low, with 4 positive samples for RSV and 1 for SARS-CoV-2 identified by laboratories during the same period.
Diarrhea
Activity was stable and moderate in primary care centers and local hospitals, as well as in the emergency departments of the three hospitals.
