Key Points

Dengue

  • Dengue activity has been low over the past two weeks in the CDPSs, local hospitals, and the emergency departments of the three CHU sites.

Chikungunya

  • Since the detection of the first confirmed case of chikungunya (S2026-04), 86 cases have been confirmed in French Guiana, including 75 in the Western Coastal sector (87%), where 7 outbreaks are currently being monitored. This sector is in the outbreak phase with no major epidemic identified. The sectors of Cayenne Island, Maroni, and Savanes are in the sporadic transmission phase, while the Interior, Eastern Interior, and Oyapock remain in the epidemiological surveillance phase.

Malaria

  • The number of malaria cases recorded in the territory was low and declining over the past two weeks, with 5 malaria episodes recorded (3 in S14 and 2 in S13) compared to a total of 8 in S11 and S12. These 5 cases were caused by P. vivax, including 1 relapse. Since the beginning of the year, there has been a 67% increase in the number of malaria cases compared to the same period in 2025. Most infections occurred in gold-mining areas in the Savanes sector. In total, 85 cases of malaria have been reported since the start of the year, including 43 in January, 26 in February, 16 in March, and 3 in April.

Acute respiratory infections

  • Activity related to influenza, bronchiolitis, and SARS-CoV-2 was low in French Guiana.

Diarrhea

  • Diarrhea-related activity was once again at a high level, particularly in the emergency departments of the three University Hospital sites.
