Epidemiological Situation of Malaria in French Guiana. Update as of November 15, 2022.

The epidemiological situation regarding malaria was stable between January and October 2022. The number of diagnosed malaria cases in the country has decreased compared to the same period in 2021.

Key indicators – January to October 2022:

  • 43 malaria cases diagnosed in a healthcare facility in French Guiana, including 13 relapses and 4 hospitalized cases (0 severe cases, 0 deaths)

  • 77% P. vivax and 23% P. falciparum

  • 20 of the 30 malaria cases excluding relapses (67%) have a presumed place of infection; among these, 5 are believed to be locally acquired and 13 imported.
