Epidemiological Situation of Dengue in French Guiana. Update as of May 26, 2023.

Key Points

Since the beginning of 2023, 31 confirmed cases of dengue—including 17 locally acquired cases—have been identified among residents of several municipalities in the Littoral and Maroni regions.

Of these 31 samples, 21 underwent serotype testing: 17 correspond to serotype DEN-3, 3 to DEN-2 (including 2 imported cases and 1 unknown), and 1 to serotype DEN-1 (an imported case).

The outbreak identified in the municipality of Kourou in week 15 remains active, and the circulation of the virus appears to have spread to the eastern part of the city over the past two weeks. The situation is calm in the rest of the territory.

From January 1 to May 25, 2023:

  • An estimated 1 to 60 clinically suggestive cases each week.

  • 31 biologically confirmed cases, including:

    • 17 DENV-3 serotype

    • 16 locally acquired cases.

  • 2 hospitalized cases, 0 deaths.
