Epidemiological Situation of Chikungunya in French Guiana. Update as of June 5, 2015.
Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation
Areas with an epidemic: The weekly number of clinically suspected chikungunya cases is moderate in the western Guyana and Kourou areas; however, it is increasing in the latter. This trend will therefore need to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
Areas with moderate local transmission of the virus: In areas where the chikungunya outbreak has ended (Cayenne Island and Maroni), circulation of the chikungunya virus is currently low and stable. In St. Georges and other municipalities that have never experienced an outbreak, no confirmed cases have been recorded for several weeks.
On June 2, 2015, the management committee decided that the sectors of Cayenne Island and Maroni would move to Phase 4 of the Psage, corresponding to the end of the epidemic. The Kourou and Western Guyana sectors remain in Phase 3 of the Psage, corresponding to an epidemic situation. The other municipalities remain in Phase 2b, corresponding to moderate local transmission of the virus with epidemic outbreaks and local transmission chains.
