Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation

Areas with an outbreak: In the sectors of Kourou, Western French Guiana, Maroni (Maripasoula, Papaïchton, Grand Santi, and Apatou), and in the municipality of Matoury, there has been an increase in the number of cases clinically suggestive of chikungunya. In Cayenne and Rémire, this indicator has stabilized.

Areas with moderate local transmission of the virus: Only the municipality of Saint Georges has reported confirmed cases and clinically suggestive cases of chikungunya. On December 23, the Management Committee approved the transition to Phase 3 of the Psage*, corresponding to an epidemic situation for the coastal municipalities stretching from Papaïchton to Cayenne. The other municipalities remained in Phase 2b, corresponding to moderate local transmission of the virus with epidemic outbreaks and local transmission chains.
