Epidemiological Situation of Arboviral Diseases in the Caribbean. As of October 19, 2016.
Analysis of the epidemiological situation
Conclusions for Martinique
Over the past ten weeks, all epidemiological indicators for dengue and chikungunya have been stable and remain below the maximum values expected for the season. No outbreaks of dengue or chikungunya were identified during this period.
The CEMIE met on October 10 to assess the epidemiological situation regarding dengue and proposed moving to Phase 1; this phase change was approved by the Management Unit on October 13. The epidemiological situation regarding dengue in Martinique now corresponds to Phase 1 of the PSAGE dengue plan: sporadic cases.
Conclusions for Guadeloupe
Since January 1, 2016, the epidemiological situation regarding arboviruses (dengue and chikungunya) has remained stable in Guadeloupe. Cases suggestive of dengue recorded in both private practice and hospital settings remain sporadic. No spatial clustering of dengue or chikungunya cases has been identified in recent weeks in the archipelago. Nevertheless, several autochthonous cases have been biologically confirmed since January 1, indicating low-level circulation of these viruses in the archipelago.
The epidemiological situation corresponds to Phase 1 of the PSAGE for these two arboviral diseases in Guadeloupe: sporadic transmission.
Conclusions for Saint Barthélemy
In Saint Barthélemy, the number of dengue virus infections has been below the maximum seasonal values expected in recent weeks. Since the end of the 2015–2016 epidemic, however, a few cases have been sporadically confirmed on the island. In addition, several sporadic cases of Chikungunya infection have been biologically confirmed in recent weeks. The epidemiological situation corresponds to Phase 1 of the PSAGE for these two arboviral diseases in Saint Barthélemy: sporadic transmission.
Conclusions for Saint Martin
Dengue indicators remain below the maximum values expected for the season. Biologically confirmed infections with dengue and Chikungunya viruses remain sporadic in Saint Martin. The epidemiological situation corresponds to Phase 1 of the PSAGE for these two arboviral diseases in Saint Martin: sporadic transmission.
