COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of November 24, 2021
Key Points
The decline in the fourth wave of COVID-19 continued sharply last week, with a COVID-19 incidence rate of 77 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
This level is comparable to the rate observed at the start of the inter-epidemic phase, between the second and third waves. The incidence rates in the Cayenne Island and Savanes sectors were below 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The rate for the Western Coast was close to 40 per 100,000 inhabitants.
The effective R value stood at 0.74, stable compared to the previous week. The regional positivity rate was below the 5% alert threshold, accompanied by a stable testing rate.
Hospitalizations across all departments remained stable, with 22 hospitalizations in S46. Additionally, ICU admissions were down, with only one admission to the critical care unit last week.
With 2 new deaths, the number of deaths recorded during the 4th wave rose to 130.
Vaccination coverage continued to increase, reaching 35.3% for a full course and 40.4% for one dose (ages 12 and older).
Coverage for the third dose (booster), which began in September 2021, stood at 7% among the elderly, with a faster rate than for the first and second doses.
