COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of June 23, 2022

Key Points

In week S24, virological indicators continued the steady increase observed over the past 6 weeks. All age groups are affected. The sectors of Cayenne Island and Savanes have the highest indicators.

Among the 95 samples sequenced by the Pasteur Institute of French Guiana in week S24, the BA.2 sublineage remains predominant (73% of samples), but the proportion of the BA.5 sublineage is increasing (25% of samples).

In hospitals, the proportion of emergency room visits for COVID-19 is increasing, while new admissions across all departments remain stable. Two ICU admissions were reported in week S24, and no in-hospital deaths were recorded.

Against this backdrop of increased viral circulation, protecting vulnerable individuals remains a priority.
