COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of January 14, 2021
Key Points
As of January 14, 2021, 14,654 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in French Guiana since March 4.
In Week 01, 848 cases were confirmed, compared to 526 in Week 53, representing a weekly incidence rate of 292 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 181 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in Week 53: the number of new confirmed cases is up compared to the previous week.
In Week 01, 7,617 tests were conducted in French Guiana (compared to 5,817 in Week 53), representing a testing rate of 2,620 tests per 100,000 inhabitants (compared to 2,001 in Week 53): the testing rate increased significantly last week.
In Week 01, the positivity rate is up to 11.1%, compared to 9.0% in Week 53.
Following the fluctuations observed at the end of the year—likely partly due to the holiday season, which affected testing rates—the data for weeks S51 and S52 are difficult to interpret. However, the data for weeks S53 and S01 point to an upward trend in confirmed cases over the past few weeks.
