COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of December 30, 2020
Key Points
Since early March, 13,045 cases of COVID-19 have been detected in French Guiana.
Last week, the number of confirmed cases decreased by 30% to 390. Testing rates also declined by a similar margin (-27%), and the positivity rate remained relatively stable at 7%.
As of December 29, the effective reproduction number (R_eff), estimated at 0.83 [0.75–0.92], reflects the decline in confirmed cases.
This downward trend, and more broadly the variations currently observed, should be interpreted with caution as they may be linked to the holiday season, during which people are likely to undergo testing less frequently.
This trend is observed across all regions of French Guiana.
Hospitalizations, an indicator less affected by the holiday season, remain stable with 31 admissions across all departments and 4 admissions to the ICU. No new deaths have been reported.
