Key Points
In week 49, a slight increase in the number of confirmed cases was observed (+14%), with a regional incidence rate of 103 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
This increase is concentrated in the Cayenne Island sector, where the incidence rate reached 159 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (+22%), while indicators are declining in the Savanes sector (134 cases per 100,000 inhabitants) and the West sector (22 cases per 100,000 inhabitants).
The effective R value stood at 1.13. The testing rate was on the rise, and the regional positivity rate remained stable and still below the 5% alert threshold.
The new Omicron variant has not yet been detected in French Guiana; the Delta variant remains the dominant strain in the territory.
Hospitalizations across all departments were down slightly, with 17 hospitalizations in S49.
Three ICU admissions and three deaths were reported, unchanged from the previous week.
As the holidays and gatherings approach, it is important to remain vigilant and follow standard preventive measures, to get vaccinated or receive a booster shot; with the aim of protecting the most vulnerable and preventing infections.
