  • Since the detection of the first case of chikungunya in French Guiana at the end of January, 38 cases have been biologically confirmed by RT-PCR by hospital and private laboratories. The virus is circulating primarily in the western coastal region, where 86% of cases have been recorded, and three outbreaks are currently being monitored. The number of clinically suggestive cases seen in outpatient clinics at Community Health Centers (CDPS) and local hospitals, as well as the number of emergency room visits for chikungunya at the three hospital sites of the University Hospital (CHU), remain low. Hospital surveillance has identified 14 hospitalized cases, with no deaths.
