Summary of Influenza Surveillance in the French West Indies and French Guiana: 2006–2007 Season

Surveillance data from the 2006–2007 flu season show moderate flu activity in the French West Indies. In French Guiana, the epidemiology of the flu appears to have changed since 2006, with two epidemic waves: one at the beginning of the year and another in May–June. The second wave corresponds to what is observed in the Southern Hemisphere, where the flu season runs from April to October. The presence of the virus during this period can be explained by the significant population movement with neighboring countries, particularly Brazil.
