Improving access to clean drinking water: an urgent priority in French Guiana.

In French Guiana, access to drinking water is uneven. The Department of Health and Social Development is working with communities and local authorities to improve water supply, including for the most isolated populations, particularly Amerindians and Black Maroons. Water fountains in urban areas not connected to the water supply, hand pumps, and rainwater harvesting: the measures taken are in line with the recommendations of the French High Council for Public Health dated April 3, 2007, specific to French Guiana. Information campaigns are being implemented as close as possible to the communities.
