Health Monitoring in the Grand Est Region. Update as of May 25, 2023.

Key Points

COVID-19

  • In week 20 of 2023, the incidence rate continued to decline (25 cases per 100,000 population compared to 35 in week 19 of 2023);

  • The incidence rate is decreasing across all age groups. The lowest incidence rate is still observed among those aged 0–9 (6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants). The highest incidence rate is still observed among those aged 80 and older (60 cases per 100,000 inhabitants);

  • Departmental incidence rates continue to decline in most departments compared to the previous week, but not in Haute-Marne, where it is rising (28 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in week 20 versus 19 cases per 100,000 in week 19), nor in Marne, where it remains stable (29 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in weeks 19 and 20). The highest incidence rate is observed in Meuse (39 cases per 100,000 inhabitants) and the lowest in Vosges (17 cases per 100,000 inhabitants);

  • The positivity rate (12%) is stable compared to the previous week;

  • The testing rate is 232 tests per 100,000 inhabitants in week 20 of 2023; it is declining across all age groups.

Acute gastroenteritis

  • Oscour®: The number of emergency department visits for acute gastroenteritis (AGI), all ages, is slightly lower compared to the previous week, with 258 visits (compared to 293 in Week 19 of 2023), representing 1% of total activity;

  • SOS Médecins: The number of consultations for acute gastroenteritis (AGI), all ages, is down compared to the previous week, with 387 consultations (compared to 461 in Week 19 of 2023), representing a 5.5% share of activity;

  • Virology data: based on data from hospital virology laboratories.

Chikungunya, dengue, Zika

  • In the Grand Est region, Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin, and Meurthe-et-Moselle are classified as departments colonized by Aedes albopictus due to the presence of the vector mosquito in certain municipalities. This particularly aggressive species can, under certain conditions, transmit diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, and Zika virus infection.

  • As of May 24, one case of dengue and two cases of chikungunya had been reported in the Grand Est region. The dengue case involved a traveler who had been to Indonesia, and the chikungunya cases involved travelers returning from Brazil and Chad.
