Public Health Surveillance in the Centre Region. Epidemiological Update as of February 15, 2013.

Key Points

  • Influenza: Week 06-2013 Influenza epidemic activity continues, with a slight slowdown in the rise of certain indicators. In Week 05, the incidence rate estimated by the Sentinelles network remains above the epidemic threshold. This marks the eighth consecutive week of rising epidemic activity in France. The highest incidence rates are in the Franche-Comté, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, Auvergne, Rhône-Alpes, Alsace, Champagne-Ardenne, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Languedoc-Roussillon, Centre, and Lorraine regions.

  • Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE): S06-2013 The rate of visits to general practitioners for acute diarrhea continues to decline (Sentinelles network). Similarly, activity related to acute gastroenteritis in hospitals is decreasing across all age groups (Oscour data). Only one region has an incidence rate above the national epidemic threshold: Auvergne. The new GII4 norovirus variant (Sydney 2012) is responsible for the majority of clustered AGE cases reported to the National Reference Center for Enteric Viruses.

  • International Alert: United Kingdom: Novel Coronavirus; French Polynesia: Dengue; Worldwide: Avian Influenza A(H5N1) – avian outbreaks
