Acute respiratory infections (influenza, bronchiolitis, COVID-19) in nursing homes in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Update as of October 23, 2024.

Key Points

  • Since September 30, 2024, 26 clusters of acute respiratory infections (ARI) have occurred in nursing homes for the elderly (EHPAD) and have been reported via the Ministry of Health and Prevention’s national reporting portal.

  • Among all these outbreaks, etiological investigations were conducted for 25 (96%) of them:

    • SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) was one of the etiologies identified by the reporting entity in 19 outbreaks and the sole etiology in 18 of them.

    • An influenza virus (flu) was one of the etiologies selected by the reporter in 2 episodes and the sole etiology in none of them.

    • RSV was not one of the etiologies selected by the reporting physician in any episode.

    • In total, for 2 episodes, more than one etiology was selected.
