Health Surveillance in Brittany. Epidemiological Update as of October 18, 2017.

Key Points

Bronchiolitis: Increased use of community and hospital emergency departments in recent weeks, with case numbers remaining low. School holidays are expected to slow the onset of the epidemic. First positive samples for respiratory syncytial virus detected in specimens analyzed at the Virology Laboratory of Rennes University Hospital since week 40. First positive sample for metapneumovirus at the Virology Laboratory of Brest University Hospital in week 41.

Asthma: High volumes of visits to community and hospital emergency departments continue. Among children under 15, this condition accounts for 2.5% and 3.3% of consultations with a coded diagnosis, respectively. This coincides with high viral circulation of rhinoviruses and enteroviruses identified in respiratory samples analyzed at the Virology Laboratory of the Rennes University Hospital.

ENT Conditions: A further increase in visits to community emergency departments among children under 15 for ENT conditions (data not shown).
