Key Points
Influenza and influenza-like illness: End of the epidemic. Continued decline in visits to community emergency rooms (-47%) and stable use of hospital emergency rooms. Activity below seasonal averages in both networks. Low activity in primary care: incidence rate of influenza-like illnesses estimated at 7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [0, 18], unconsolidated Sentinelles data).Decrease in the positivity rate for type A and B viruses at Brest University Hospital (3% out of 70 samples) and Rennes University Hospital (3% out of 75 samples).
Bronchiolitis (children under 2 years of age) End of the epidemic. Continued decline in visits to community emergency departments (-33%) and hospital emergency departments (-40%). Slight increase in the RSV positivity rate at Brest University Hospital (13% out of 70 samples) and Rennes University Hospital (19% out of 75 samples).
Gastroenteritis: Epidemic activity. Slight resurgence in visits to community emergency departments (+12%) and stability in visits to hospital emergency departments. Activity within seasonal averages in both networks. Low activity in primary care: incidence rate of acute diarrhea estimated at 116 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [48, 184], unconsolidated sentinel data).Viral circulation of rotavirus, norovirus, adenovirus, and astrovirus identified in enteric specimens analyzed at the virology laboratories of the Brest University Hospital and the Rennes University Hospital.
Mortality: An excess of deaths across all age groups and among those aged 75 and older has been observed since week 52/2016. In week 07/2017, an excess of at least +11% was noted in Brittany (down from previous weeks). In week 08, the number of deaths across all age groups and among those aged 75 and older fell back below the thresholds (subject to data consolidation; data are not yet complete).
