Health Surveillance in Brittany. Epidemiological Update as of January 27, 2016.

Summary

Influenza and influenza-like illness: Entering the epidemic phase: a sharp increase in the number of emergency room visits and calls to SOS Médecins. Type B viral circulation, on the rise at Rennes University Hospital (14% positivity rate, out of 65 samples) and at Brest University Hospital (8% positivity rate, out of 73 samples). Second isolation of type A virus, this time from a sample analyzed at Brest University Hospital.

Gastroenteritis: Start of the epidemic: high activity in primary care, on the rise: incidence rate of acute diarrhea estimated at 301 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [192, 410], unconsolidated Sentinelles data). Emergency department visits are also on the rise: gastroenteritis accounts for 2% of diagnoses in hospital emergency departments and 8% of diagnoses at SOS Médecins.
