Influenza and influenza-like illness: Epidemic activity (rising phase). Indicators tracked by SOS Médecins remain stable, accounting for 10% of coded diagnoses. Slight decrease in emergency room visits (-9%). In both cases, levels are higher than in previous seasons during the same period. High activity in primary care: incidence rate of influenza-like illnesses estimated at 225 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [130, 320], unconsolidated Sentinelles data).Circulation of type A virus slightly down according to the virology laboratory at Brest University Hospital (positivity rate = 20% out of 197 samples).
Severe cases of influenzaSince week 45/2016, 28 severe cases of influenza, in patients aged 32 to 85, have been admitted to intensive care in Brittany. All were infected with an influenza A virus, and 26 had at least one risk factor targeted by vaccination.
Acute Respiratory Infections in Nursing HomesSince September 1, 2016, 67 outbreaks of acute respiratory infections in nursing homes have been reported.
Bronchiolitis (children under 2 years of age)Epidemic activity (declining phase, peak in week 51). Continued decline in SOS Médecins consultations (-52%), accounting for 5% of all consultations. Decrease in emergency room visits (-34%). Remains within seasonal averages. Circulation of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is slightly decreasing according to data from the Brest University Hospital laboratory (positivity rate = 11% out of 188 samples).
Gastroenteritis: Epidemic activity (upward phase). Increase in use of SOS Médecins (+15%), accounting for 10% of consultations. Hospital emergency room visits remain stable. Activity remains above seasonal averages in both sources. High activity in primary care: incidence rate of acute diarrhea estimated at 324 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [203, 445], unconsolidated Sentinelles data). Circulation of norovirus and rotavirus. No adenovirus circulation detected in enteric specimens analyzed at the virology laboratory of the Brest University Hospital.
