Health Surveillance in Brittany. Epidemiological Update as of April 5, 2017.

Key Points

Gastroenteritis: Epidemic activity. Stabilization in the use of both community and hospital emergency departments. Activity slightly above seasonal averages for hospital emergency departments. Children under 5 account for 76% of hospital cases (down), and gastroenteritis accounts for 14% of diagnoses in this age group (slightly down). Low activity in primary care: incidence rate of acute diarrhea estimated at 83 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [7, 159], unconsolidated Sentinelles data).Circulation of Rotavirus and Adenovirus, identified in enteric specimens analyzed at the Virology Laboratory of the Brest University Hospital. Circulation of Rotavirus in Rennes.

Asthma: Decrease in emergency department visits both in community settings (across all age groups) and in hospitals (across all age groups except for children under 5, where visits are on the rise).

As the bronchiolitis and influenza epidemics have been over for more than 3 weeks, surveillance of these conditions ends this week for the 2016-2017 season.
