Health Surveillance in Brittany. Bulletin of September 26, 2025.

Key Points

ENT Conditions

  • An upward trend in ENT conditions, typically observed at the start of the school year, in hospital emergency departments and at SOS Médecins. Among children under 5, ENT conditions accounted for 15.6% of emergency department visits and 59.2% of SOS Médecins consultations in S38. High detection rates of rhinoviruses/enteroviruses by the virology laboratories at the Brest and Rennes University Hospitals (positivity rates of 17.1% (24/141) and 23.9% (22/92), respectively).

Emergency room visits and SOS Médecins consultations

  • Increase in the number of emergency department visits (+5.3%, or +879 visits) and the number of SOS Médecins consultations for all causes (+4.2%, or +203 consultations) during Week 38, compared to Week 37. The volumes of emergency room visits and SOS Médecins consultations (all causes) are similar to observations from previous years, for the same period and all age groups, and follow the same trends. There is still higher activity among those aged 75 and older in hospital emergency rooms.

Asthma at the Start of the School Year

  • Among those under 15, following two weeks of sharp increases (Weeks 36 and 37), there was a slight decrease in emergency department visits and a slight increase in SOS Médecins consultations, though both remain at a high level.
