COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Brittany as of July 9, 2020
Key Points
Sporadic detection of confirmed cases
As of July 7, 2020, 2,995 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed by RT-PCR in the region since the start of the epidemic.
Virology (Figure 1): Very low positivity rate. More than 8,900 RT-PCR tests were performed in week 27 in the region.
SI-VIC (Figure 2): The majority of hospitalizations occurred in Ille-et-Vilaine. The majority of deaths occurred in Morbihan (36%) and Ille-et-Vilaine (33%).
ESMS (Figure 3): From March 1, 2020, through July 9, 381 facilities reported an outbreak, including 105 confirmed by one or more confirmed cases—residents or staff members—linked to COVID-19 in Brittany. These included 242 (64%) nursing homes (EHPAD) and 139 (36%) other long-term care facilities (EMS). All 381 reports corresponded to a total of COVID-19 cases (367 confirmed cases and 1,542 possible cases) among residents, of whom 243 were hospitalized. Among these possible and confirmed cases, 89 died in the facilities and 59 died in the hospital out of the total 381 reports; in the 105 facilities with a confirmed case, there were 71 deaths in the facility and 52 deaths in the hospital, respectively.
