Vaccination in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Overview of vaccination coverage in 2023.

Key Points

High vaccination coverage in 2023 among infants subject to the mandatory vaccination requirements in effect since 2018, but below vaccination targets (95%):

  • 93% for the vaccine against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, pertussis, Haemophilus influenzae type b, and hepatitis B, and the pneumococcal vaccine at 21 months of age

  • 88% for the meningococcal C vaccine at 21 months of age

  • 86% for the second dose of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine at 33 months of age

Insufficient vaccination coverage among infants subject to vaccination recommendations:

  • 29% for the meningococcal B vaccine (2 doses and 1 booster) at 21 months of age

  • 29% for the rotavirus vaccine (recommended since 2023) at 8 months of age

Very low vaccination coverage among adolescents and at-risk individuals:

  • 50% for the meningococcal C vaccine among 15- to 19-year-olds (+4 percentage points increase between 2022 and 2023)

  • 57% of 15-year-old girls and 25% of 15-year-old boys have started their human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination series, still far from the 80% target of the 10-year cancer control strategy by 2030 (+6 percentage points among girls and +13 percentage points among boys between 2022 and 2023)

  • 48% for the flu vaccine among at-risk individuals (people over 65, people with certain chronic conditions; far from the 75% target)

  • 30% for the COVID-19 vaccine among those aged 65 and older

  • Less than 2% for the shingles vaccine among those aged 65–74

At the end of the first phase of the HPV vaccination campaign in middle school (7th grade), as of December 31, 2023, it is estimated that approximately 55% of girls and 43% of boys aged 12 have received at least one dose of the HPV vaccine. These estimates take into account vaccinations administered in middle school and in the community. An increase of 20 percentage points among girls and 19 percentage points among boys was observed between the start and end of the first phase of the campaign, though the portion directly attributable to the campaign has not yet been quantified.
