Headlines - Investigation into cases of dermatitis following swimming, Yonne, 2012

Cases of dermatitis that appeared on July 25 and 28, 2012, affecting two groups of children and a young girl who had visited a lake with supervised swimming, were reported to the ARS. The papule-like rashes, which were not serious, disappeared within 2–3 days. Literature reviews, epidemiological, and environmental investigations were conducted to describe the situation, identify potential causes and health risks, and issue recommendations.

The 11 groups of children who visited the lake that week and local healthcare professionals were interviewed. The incidence rate varied widely (ranging from 0% for 4 groups to over 40% for 2 groups). The number of reported cases increased with the frequency and duration of swimming and the absence of showering after swimming. [...]
