Burgundy and Franche-Comté Public Health Bulletin. April 2018.

Key Points

  • Vaccination data from the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region for diphtheria-tetanus-polio (DTP), pertussis (Pertussis), Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), hepatitis B, pneumococcal, measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), and human papillomavirus (HPV) are comparable to vaccination coverage data for all of France. They are lower than the figures for all of France for the vaccine against invasive meningococcal C (IMMC) at 5 months and 2 years of age.

  • Regarding the DTPCoqHib vaccines, with a CV below 95%, the departments of Jura, Nièvre, and the Territoire de Belfort lag significantly behind the other departments in the region.

  • For the hepatitis B vaccine, the regional trend has been upward since 2014. Four departments have a CV above 90% (Côte-d’Or, Doubs, Haute-Saône, and Yonne). The Jura department lags behind the other departments

  • For the pneumococcal vaccine, the regional trend has been upward since 2014. Only the Yonne department has a vaccination coverage rate above 95%. The Jura department lags behind the other departments.

  • Regarding the single-dose MMR vaccine, of all the departments in the region, only Haute-Saône reaches the 95% threshold. For the second dose of the MMR vaccine, none of the departments reaches this threshold necessary to prevent any epidemic risk.

  • Vaccination coverage against meningococcal disease is insufficient in all departments of the region, particularly in Jura and the Territoire de Belfort, and is even lower among adolescents and young adults, the population most affected by meningococcal carriage. These coverage rates do not provide the herd immunity necessary to protect unvaccinated individuals.

  • HPV vaccination coverage is increasing significantly among birth cohorts from 1999 to 2001 but remains well below public health targets.
