Heat Wave and Health Alert System in Auvergne. Epidemiological Update as of October 15, 2015.
Three heat waves occurred in mainland France this summer, two of which affected the Auvergne region. The first heat wave took place from June 30, 2015, to July 7, 2015. This event, notable for its intensity, extent, and early occurrence in the summer season, saw a significant increase in emergency room visits (84 visits) and SOS Médecins consultations (29 consultations) for heat-related conditions, primarily among people over the age of 75. A significant increase in mortality was observed, with an estimated excess of 92 deaths in weeks 27 and 28 (+18.3% compared to expected values). The second episode (July 16–22, 2015), which was less intense, led to a more moderate increase in heat-related healthcare use, with no observed rise in mortality.
