Heat Wave and Health Alert System in Auvergne and Rhône-Alpes. Update as of August 28, 2017.

Key Points

Four departments are under an orange heat wave alert and six departments are under a yellow heat wave alert.

On August 27, 2017, activity levels at emergency departments and SOS Médecins were comparable to those observed over the previous seven days. The number of heat-related calls to emergency departments was lower than on August 26, 2017, but SOS Médecins was called upon for a few interventions related to heat-related illnesses. Thus, heat-related conditions accounted for 0.28% of all emergency department visits (all causes coded, all ages) and 0.40% of cases handled by SOS Médecins. Emergency departments in departments under an orange heatwave alert were primarily affected, while SOS Médecins responded more frequently to heat-related emergencies in departments under a yellow or green alert.

For yesterday (August 27):

  • 10 visits to emergency departments for heat-related conditions across the region, half of whom were hospitalized; these visits involved only adults, 40% of whom were over 75 years old.

  • 3 SOS Médecins consultations for heat-related illnesses in adults, only one of which was in a department under an orange alert.
