Heat Wave and Health Alert System in Auvergne and Rhône-Alpes. Update as of August 27, 2017.

Key Points

Three departments are under an orange heat wave alert and four departments are under a yellow heat wave alert.

For August 26, 2017, emergency service activity was comparable to that observed over the previous 7 days. Calls for pre-hospital care (PLC) were the highest in recent days. SOS Médecins associations have been busy, but no calls for PLC have been recorded across the entire region in the past 48 hours. Thus, in emergency departments, heat-related conditions accounted for 0.53% of all visits for all causes and all ages. The majority of visits occurred in the Rhône department, which is under an orange alert.

For yesterday (August 26):

  • There were 19 emergency room visits for heat-related illnesses across the entire region; these visits were split equally (37%) between people over 75 and those aged 45 to 74, and just over 20% involved a child under 15. Seventy-nine percent of emergency room visits for heat-related illnesses were followed by hospitalization, with 80% of these cases split equally between those aged 75 and older and adults aged 45 to 74.

  • No SOS Médecins consultations for heat-related illnesses were reported.
